What is Atomic Heart, and why is everyone so excited to try it out?

Russian studio Mundfish is currently working on a first-person action-adventure game called Atomic Heart. The game has witnessed great developments during the past 5 years since it was first revealed, and since the game is approaching its official launch in late 2022, we decided to share with you today a new article that talks about all the information we have at the moment about the game Atomic Heart, and what You will present it to us in terms of story and gameplay.

First of all, what is Atomic Heart?
Atomic Heart is a first-person action-adventure experience inspired by industry-leading titles like BioShock and 2017's Prey. Development of the game officially started in 2017 by Mundfish studio based out of Moscow, Russia. When the game was revealed for the first time in 2017, it appeared to be aimed at experiencing virtual reality glasses, but it seems that this idea was canceled after only one year, as it became a regular game for PC and consoles.

Rumors appeared during 2019 that Mundfish Studio is in big trouble, and all the offers that have been published for the game Atomic Heart are fake and have no basis in truth. The studio came out with a quick response with a 17-minute clip showing off the studio and staff, and it was confirmed that famed developer Richard "Levelord" Gray is working with them on the game.

In case you didn't know, Richard "Levelord" Gray was famous in the late last century for his work on a bunch of great games like Quake, Hexen, and Duke Nukem 3D. The developer had taken a break away from the games, but the story and world of Atomic Heart drew his attention to work again on a new game and assist the Atomic Heart studio on the directing side.

The story of Atomic Heart alone will make you fall in love with it!
Atomic Heart is set in the Soviet Union in an alternate reality sometime in 1955 where technologies such as the Internet, holograms, and robots have already been invented. These technologies were taking place inside a group of factories in Russia, where a group of scientists invented technologies that made them control robots. For some reason, these technologies failed, and the robots had a vital mind to think with, which made them become more dangerous than ever.

You play as Agent P-3 who is sent by the State Security Committee (KGB) of the Soviet Union to investigate what happened inside Factory 3826 where he discovers that there has been a massive failure of the primary system which has caused the machines to rebel against the humans and kill them all. Your task is to eliminate the consequences of this accident and prevent the leakage of classified information that could destroy the entire world!

The world of Atomic Heart will consist of 6 main regions and each region will have a role to play in solving the mystery of the story as P-3 must also discover what happened in the beginning to lead to this total failure and why the machines rebelled against the humans. Atomic Heart game mixes a set of elements in telling its story, as of course there will be a set of distinctive cinematic scenes built within the Unreal Engine, but we will also get a set of papers and documents that explain the story of this world more and will make us immerse in it and its details more broadly.

Mundfish Studio previously revealed that the Atomic Heart story will require you about 20 hours to complete it. The story is linear from start to finish, but towards the end of the game you'll have to make some choices that will affect the ending. Atomic Heart will present you with two very different endings based on these choices. The studio also confirmed that you will have to repeat the game more than once in order to fully understand the story!

The gameplay mixes Prey 2017 and Bioshock with the addition of open world elements!
Atomic Heart offers you a semi-open world where the story itself as I mentioned will be mainly linear, but the game will have 6 main areas to explore and enjoy missions and a set of side discoveries. The studio confirmed that the side missions will serve the main story, as it will provide you with more details about this world. This design will not be used for the first time in Atomic Heart, but rather we saw it in a game like Prey 2017 where it introduced a relatively open world with a linear story. Prey was one of the games that Mundfish studio got its ideas from and this is evidenced by the design of the enemies and the hand weapons that you can use in Atomic Heart. Clashes with melee weapons seem violent, and the game will introduce Finishers, such as the Glory Kills found in DOOM!

The game also offers you a wide range of automatic weapons with different abilities that will help you in fighting the different bosses of the game. More important than weapons are the main abilities of the P-3 character, as he has a technically advanced gauntlet that enables him to perform a set of distinctive movements such as lifting enemies off the ground and dropping them hard to kill them, or freezing enemies in the air and then you can break this ice to kill them faster. All of your abilities you will be able to upgrade over the course of the game's story, and you will also get stronger and more violent abilities.

The game uses some RPG elements to upgrade abilities and weapons, as it seems that as you progress in the game, you will encounter more powerful enemies, and therefore you will have to search for stronger and more durable equipment in order to be able to confront these new enemies. The game offers you more than one level of difficulty: the first level will be the relatively easy level, and the studio compared the game to BioShock at this level. But if you are a fan of a game such as DOOM Eternal and Souls-like games and want to get a greater challenge, the game will also offer you this through another, more difficult level!

From the clips released for Atomic Heart so far, it appears that the main character P-3 will be able to drive some of the vehicles/cars in the game world. We don't know if that driving will be a major part of the game's mechanics or just some minor cut scenes.

Composer Mick Gordon's music makes the world come alive
Of course, a first-person action game whose sound design must be interesting to help you enjoy this world, and here comes the role of the genius composer Mick Gordon who made the game more attractive than just participating in musical pieces in some Atomic Heart performances.

Composer Mick Gordon is famous for his work on a range of giant Bethesda games in recent years, the most important of which are:
DOOM 2016
Prey 2017
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
DOOM Eternal
and others
Mundfish Studio decided to use this genius composer to help them design the soundtrack for the world of Atomic Heart, and from the simple performances that we saw, it seems that we are facing an exciting experience in all respects. Personally, I find Mick Gordon the most suitable composer to do music design for this special world because his music is unnaturally attractive. This guy has me hooked on DOOM over and over again just to hear his powerful and aggressive music, and I can't wait to hear the full Atomic Heart album when it comes with the game.

When will Atomic Heart be released, and what are the PC requirements?
In the last clip that Mundfish Studio participated in, it was confirmed that the game will be released sometime between September and December 2022. So far, there is no specific launch date, and we expect the official and final date to be revealed during E3 2022 events within the Microsoft Xbox broadcast. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S. It will also be added to Xbox Game Pass on the day of its official launch.

In terms of operating requirements, don't worry, Atomic Heart will not require a giant device to enjoy it:
