Baldur's Gate 3 is set after the events of the Stigmata from the first two mainline games - Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II - although this does not necessarily mean it directly follows the story of the previous games as this new sequel aims to tell an entirely new story set in the same game world.

The game begins with a gang of Mind Flayer parasites implanting tadpoles into human brains, who later transform humans as one of their own. Your player character is one of the humans, devoured by Parasites, and it's up to you how to fight the evil within you, resist corruption, and turn the darkness against itself to prevent your character from being too evil.

Baldur's Gate 3 exploration game takes place in real time. However, you have the option to pause the world and slow things down at any time. You can use this option as a tactical advantage, especially if you see an opportunity to make a precision assault or escape from a terrible trap. This ability makes the game easy to play as it allows you to multitask activities for your party and divide up your team for effective execution of attack plans. You can expect other real-time actions to occur at the same time as other step-by-step events on the other hand.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a turn-based combat game based on the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition rule set. You'll see a status bar for the character's moves, stat count, and attack percentages. Combat battles for this part are more interactive. You'll be able to do more during your time, such as throw your boots at your enemy, knock over buckets, and ravage the ground to beat your enemies.
