Fantasy open world souls-like RPG

Elden Ring is an open world role-playing game created by FromSoftware. The upcoming video game was the result of a collaboration between Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki and George RR Martin, creator of Game of Thrones. Elden Ring takes cues from Martin's rich and realized fantasy world and from Miyazaki's beautifully terrifying art design and scope.

Elden Ring on Windows can also be played on Playstation and Xbox consoles, and is a challenging experience that rewards patience and skill. Most similar to the Dark Souls games, Elden Ring is an immersive adventure that will take the player through breath-taking vistas, bizarre enemy design, and deep RPG customization.

Survive the harshness of the lands in between

Since it was first announced at E3 in 2019, the Elden Ring has generated buzz and hope, particularly among Dark Souls fans. Combat in this game is similar to what you'd find in Souls, Bloodborne, or Sekiro: constant evasive training, carefully timed attacks, and frequent use of potions are your best defense against the many destructive creatures in the game.

This is especially true of the exhausting boss fights, which can feel unforgiving and frustrating for less patient players. Some will take dozens of attempts to defeat, but with each failed attempt the player will be better equipped for another match. At its core, Elden Ring is an action RPG. As such, there are many ways to build your character to craft a different combat experience.

You can define your play style with a variety of weapons: axes, swords, magic wands, deadly crossbows and sledgehammers. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, and some cannot even be equipped without meeting the required attributes. Mounted combat allows for attacks from horseback, and various magical abilities and stealth skills can also be unlocked and employed throughout your journey.

More social gamers will also enjoy Elden Ring's various multiplayer modes. Some items can be placed on the ground and designated as your calling sign. This tag will appear in other players' games. If they interact with it, it brings you into cooperative play. You can stay there until one of you dies or you defeat the regional boss.

For the more competitive player, Elden Ring also offers a PvP multiplayer option. Here you can exploit it with other players to see who has a stronger build, more experience, and/or higher skill. Dark Souls veterans may find Elden Ring to be their new favorite game, as it adds new quality of life features to an already successful formula. For this same reason, people who don't like the Soulsborne genre should give Elden Ring a try.

Elden Ring vs. Dark Souls

A dark, high fantasy RPG full of challenging boss battles and foreboding landscapes, Elden Ring is just like its predecessors from FromSoftware. However, the knowledge behind the world is very different, and the gameplay has been marked by differences. Elden Ring is completely open world, just like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Venture anywhere that strikes your fancy, but be prepared for tougher battles.

Combat is similar to Dark Souls 3, where you prefer timed dodges to avoid crippling blows from enemies. Even the slowest and weakest enemies in the Elden Ring can unleash devastating chains of attacks if you find yourself caught in their clutches. There's a new parry and counter mechanic much like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Using a shield allows you to strike back, leaving weaker enemies at a disadvantage. New jump attacks can stun enemies, preparing them for critical strikes. While there is magic in Dark Souls, it plays a more prominent role in the Elden Ring. Spellcasting adds flexibility to your fighting style. Summoning can distract and surround your opponent, or Ash can be attached to gear, saturating your weapons with powerful new attacks.

Expansion gives excitement

The Elden Ring contains a DLC expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree. Its concept art depicts a haunted plain of lands in between, surrounded by the remains of dead soldiers. A lone blonde figure, frequently referred to as Mikaela, can be seen walking across the bleak landscape towards the dying Erdtree. Among the many characters belonging to the chaotic family tree at the center of the game's drama, only Mikaela from Haligtree can be met by the player character in the main game.

Miquella is best known by players as Malinia's older twin brother, Blade of Miquella - the most challenging but optional boss at the end of the game. You can meet her at the bottom of Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. Mikaela is also associated with Mohg, Lord of Blood - another optional boss you can fight in Mohgwyn Palace. The DLC is expected to show more about this mysterious imperial. The expansion will be on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S.

Dodge your way to becoming the greatest lord

There is no single path to victory on the Elden Ring. It is as possible to go into battle on your summonable steed as it is to cast magic from a distance or pick up enemies softly with silent blows from the shadow. However, your mettle will be tested again and again in long dungeons, against gigantic creatures, and navigating treacherous terrain.

Elden Ring sets a new standard for open world game design, featuring an inspiring open world to roam and many different biomes to explore. Curiosity is rewarded at every turn, and combat is just as challenging as in other FromSoftware titles. A landmark achievement for the genre, gamers with grit, patience, and determination will thoroughly enjoy Elden Ring on Windows.
