GTA 6 leaker accused of blackmailing Rockstar

Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most anticipated games of all time, which has made it a huge target for piracy. According to a recent Reuters story, this includes a hacker who sent a message to all Rockstar employees on the company's Slack channel threatening to release the main development code for GTA 6.

According to Reuters, the accused hacker is Arion Kortag, a teenage member of the Lapsus$ hacking group who faces 12 charges in total, including three counts of extortion, two counts of fraud and six counts under the UK's Computer Misuse Act.

On top of Rockstar, Kortag has also been accused of targeting companies like Revolut, Uber and Nvidia and extorting British provider BT Group and demanding $4 million in ransom. Cortag was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial.

In the year 2022, Rockstar Games suffered a "network intrusion" which resulted in a batch of unfinished games and assets being leaked via social media. Rockstar moved quickly to remove the leaks, but was unable to completely prevent their spread.
