Microsoft officially announces that it has signed an agreement with Sony to provide the Call of Duty series on PlayStation devices

Today, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, revealed through his official Twitter account that Microsoft has signed an agreement with Sony obliging the company to release the famous Call of Duty series on PlayStation devices after acquiring Activision Blizzard.

Spencer added that he is looking forward to a future where gamers will have more choice in terms of where they want to play their games.

Spencer tweeted:

We are pleased to announce that Microsoft and PlayStation have signed a binding agreement to keep the Call of Duty series on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where gamers around the world have more options to play their favorite games.

No other details about the agreement were shared by Spencer, so it's not clear exactly how long the agreement will be or what it entails. However, Spencer kept his promises that he made more and more recently during Microsoft's trial before the FTC, which he said at the time. He will do whatever it takes to keep the Call of Duty franchise on PlayStation.

In December 2022 several reports indicated that Microsoft's offer to Sony was to keep the Call of Duty series on PlayStation devices for 10 years and that Sony had the right to put Call of Duty into even a PlayStation Plus subscription if desired, and it remains to be seen if this is the case. The agreement these two companies agreed upon or if things have changed since then.
